Two Weeks – A Poem Written by Archana Pushkaran

Two Weeks

Written by Archana Pushkaran

Stirrings of life, buzzing my ears,
I hear them so loud and clear.
The whirring sound from the
ceiling fan,
pages fluttering from the
calendar hanged,
birds chirping and vehicles honking,
eyes awake, I felt different this morning.
After a shower, heading downstairs,
I could smell the air in my
home depressed.
Sister still asleep, who usually
wakes up early.
Mom’s in the kitchen,
slow and struggling.
Dad’s puffy eyes tells me,
he had a tough time sleeping.
the house’s filled with the
aromas of flowers and incense sticks.
A few hours passed by,
I see friends and family,
walking towards my home.
This noise,
was unbearable to my soul.
In the middle of our courtyard,
I see a priest chanting prayers,
getting ready for havan.
Making me all dizzy and shaken.
As I turn back,
to look at my family,
Tears well up in my eyes,
as I watch them closely.
I had to leave.
It’s been two weeks,
since I had come back home.
It’s been two weeks,
since I departed from my dead body,
to become a soul.
