The War And A Paraplegic

Written by Alan KKLiew

The night was dark, no man could see
Yet a lone figure was there
And could hardly wobble.
In solitude he shedded tears
Keeping him in zone of yesteryears.

There the bullets incessantly rattled
Hearts of innocent people trembled
Breathlessness were at the door
People were moaning and dying
With blood soaking the entire floor.

At that far end corner
A lieutenant colonel
His legs were badly damaged.
Paralyzed, sought relief in vain
Uttered deep sorrows of pain.

While sound of bugle soared
Crying out for fallen heroes
The war drum echoed.
Storms had heavily roared
Across the western corridor.

Awaiting in the dark,
He was at a wheelchair.
Birdies chirping across the park
Harmony he could sense
Engulfed by sweet scent of the air.

Sounds of children singing
Lilting the cadence of hymns
Denoting peace to him
Before the twilight
But he showed no delight.

His continuious rumination
That he returned from war a cripple,
No pretty lady would ” pity ”
He noticed how the woman’s eyes
Looking at him without a sigh.

He was mentally unstable
Throughout his miserable years
His face revealed no cheers
Reluctantly on his wheelchair
His tears no one would ever share.
