The Greedy Power – A Poem Written by Menu Tamang

The Greedy Power

Written by Menu Tamang

Aren’t we mad?
Look at that mountain
Who is so sad
For she lost her jewels
The snow cape
Now forever, she lost her sparkles

Aren’t we mad?
Look at that sandy brook
Who is in thirst, dying
Yearning coolness of her first
She sobs in her lost tone
For her freshness is forever gone

Aren’t we mad?
Look at that concrete forest
Ruled by horns and beeps
The bricks, metal and cement
Cries she in despair
For her greenery will never reappear

Aren’t we mad?
For who we are
The greedy needy
The blind power
Whose pleasure has remained
May be for an hour

Aren’t you mad?
When sun heats your bald head
Whose hair were sheared
By your own greedy hand
By your own hungry blade
And again, you look for the safe shade

The sky cries hard- untime
Or it shines sharp-unseasonal
The earth cries in flood
Or it dies in thirst
The land burst into pieces
Or it cracks and breaks

Dear greedy owner
The man of this blind power
The greed has made you mad
And riches you for an hour
But hunted the earth and its dweller
For all time, for all coming days;
Aren’t we mad? – For this self-centered greed?
