Tanupriya Kalita – Biography

Tanupriya Kalita (b. 12th October 1988) is an Indian Assamese poet and singer born in the Bongaigaon district of Assam, India. She is the daughter of Subhash Chandra Kalita and Mamata Choudhary. She did schooling and college in Abhayapuri, Bongaigaon, Assam. She also did her graduation(B.Music – Visharad) from Bhatkhande (Lucknow) and post-graduation (M. Music – Nipun) from Nikhil Bharat Sangeet Samiti in music(vocal).

Tanupriya Kalita, started with a professional music career in her early childhood and received much recognition in stage performances and live shows. During her childhood performance, her musical talent was appreciated by Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. Soon after that, her fame started to spread within and outside of the Bongaigaon district, which attracted the attention of academicians like Dr. Subur Abdus, who was doing doctoral research at North Bengal University on Women’s Empowerment. Tanupriya Kalita’s name was finally documented officially as a famed singer in the PhD thesis (Chapter 6) of Dr. Subur Abdus,  Department of Political Science, University of North Bengal.

In her musical shows, the audience started to grow and very soon she got opportunities to interact with musical legends like Late Khagen Mahanta and all that happened during her childhood performances.

In, the year 2021, she released two Assamese hit songs like “Uri Jaboloi Mon Jai” & “Jonmodin” which are globally accepted and appreciated.

globally accepted, appreciated, and broadcasted by digital radios from countries like the UK, Japan Norway, USA, etc. One of her songs has been nominated DJooky Music Award in the continental round in 2021.  After her songs were globally distributed on the digital platform, she became a verified artist on Spotify and Apple Music, in addition to that she got affiliated with Broadcast Music, Inc., USA (BMI Account No.:550895840, IPI No.1073693247).

Tokyo-based radio station “Street Sound Radio” has decided to broadcast her song “Uri Jaboloi Mon Jai” which was released on 1st January 2021, looking into the merit of the song. The song was written and composed by famous Assamese musician Siddhartha Kashyap and voiced by Tanupriya Kalita.  The song was broadcasted in their flagship program “Steve’s New Music Review Show No. 103” on Friday 5th of February 2021 at 6:30 pm (Japan Standard Time). The song also ranked 4th in the SSR ‘Radio Indie Alliance’ Top 10 Chart. Renowned British musician Steve Benham categorically appreciated the quality of Tanupriya Kalita’s voice at the end of the broadcast. On  February 16th, 2021 (Tuesday) the same song was broadcasted by The Menance’s House of Indies (a popular Radio) of Norway on a new artist’s show hosted by Gleny Rudd (United Kingdom).

On 26th February 2020, 16 songs were considered in the popular indie show no #428, in which “Jonmodin” an Assamese song by Tanupriya Kalita was broadcasted. The song Jonmodin which means Birthday is a children’s exclusive song.

Tanupriya Kalita’s musical achievement, reached its culmination when her

song “Uri Jaboloi Mon Jai” was nominated for the Djooky Global Music Contest which received thousands of song entries from the entire world. The contest started on 19th February and got over on 28th February.

From India 157 songs were nominated and 3 songs were selected for Continental Round.

Tanupriya Kalita’s Assamese song “Uri Jaboloi Mon Jai” got the second position in the national voting round out of 157 songs and entered into a continental voting round on 24th February in which the song secured 3rd position in the Indie songs category out of 320 songs.

Tanupriya Kalita’s status as a classical singer was recognized when her name was included as Artist in Swar Ganga Foundation, USA on their official website also included in a book “Great Women of Assam and North East India” in which her name was mentioned in notable personality in Music. Also, her name git included in many wiki pages under the category of music, singers etc.

Tanupriya Kalita is not only a melodious singer but also has talent in literature. She used to write poems which used to get published in newspapers and magazines.  Finally the year 2021, she published her first poetry book  Emuthi Sagar – Anubhuti Mur Hridoy Spondonor from Notion Press, Chennai. The book consists of 25 poems and 24 quotes. Each poem opens up a new horizon of thoughts showing different aspects of life and giving a taste of various flavours of life.

The book sooner made available in all countries across the globe and got distributed by Barnes and Nobles, Baker and Taylor, and Apple Books.

The book received much recognition internationally when award-winning British novelist Martin Mathews interviewed Tanupriya Kalita and the interview got published on multiple digital platforms including bookgoodies, martin’s official website as well as amazon. After receiving such recognition on the global scale, Bongaigaon Zilla Sahitya Sabha invited Tanupriya Kalita to recite a poem from her book and sing a song on the auspicious occasion of  105th Foundation Day of Assam Sahitya Sabha on 27th December 2021.

On 13th March 2022, Tanupriya Kalita was conferred with the title of Most Inspiring Women of Earth and was placed in World Record 2022 by the Golden Book of Earth. The award was conferred by Swarna Bharat Pariwar and International Internship University on the occasion of International Women’s Day for her contribution to music, culture, and social cause. More than 2001+ women from 200 countries are honoured in this event. She was also nominated as Women of Inspiration by Universal Women’s Network, Canada for Cultural Ambassador Award 2022 for literature and music.

Her poetry book also got nominated for Readers Choice Award 2022, by TCK Publishing.

On 16th May, Foxclues honoured Top Authors of India and conferred with  “India Prime Top 100 Author Award” for the year 2022.

The awardees include professors, scientists, noted novelists, and poets from around the country.

Tanupriya Kalita has been conferred with this prestigious award in the literature category for her poetry book Emuthi Sagar. Along with Tanupriya Kalita, 42 other noted personalities in literature won this award.

Tanupriya Kalita from Assam is amongst those next-generation poets and singer, who has uplifted the arts and culture on a global scale. A true inspiration for the next generation indian youth.
