Khamili Tripura – A Poem Written by Sanhita Sinha

Khamili Tripura

Written by Sanhita Sinha

Gently the mamita season comes
With hopes in heart and dreams in those hilly eyes of
Khamili Tripura,a septuagenarian lady of green hills.
Cataracts might have blurred her vision,
But her dreams are still green like those Paddy leaves!
Fresh like those moments of her early days.
Now, in twilight of her life, with her wrinkled hands
She makes braid of her grey hair,
sets a khumpui in her bun and hums
Those tunes that once she sang with sumui & sarinda.
Her heart still runs to that moon beamy fields
Where once she danced on the beats of kham
with her friends, with her beloved.
Khamili Tripura does not know about
Globalisation, Demonetization,
Neither she knows about, e-commerce or digital India.
But she knows, the farmers are the fighters
Who gives freedom from hunger, from pain .
So, with her folded hands, still she worships
Mailuma and khuluma
For wealth and warmth, for crops and cotton
For peace and Freedom !
